MAX BR1 Mini – IGN pin wiring for DC power (non-vehicle installation)

Hi,

We have two Peplink MAX BR1 Mini units deployed at remote sites. The factory power adapter is a wall-wart style plug, which doesn’t fit well on the power strip in our server rack.

I’d like to power the unit from the rack PDU, which provides 240VAC via IEC320-C14 outlets. To do this, I purchased a power supply with an IEC320-C15 input (120–240VAC) and a 12VDC, 1.5A output.

I’m planning to build a custom cable using the connector shown in your documentation (referencing the ignition sensing pinout). The Peplink has four pins: VCC, GND, IGN, and GPIO. The factory cable uses VCC, GND, and IGN, but not GPIO.

My question is about the IGN pin:

Since my power supply only provides +12VDC and GND, is it acceptable to tie the IGN pin to +12V (same as VCC) so the unit powers on automatically?

My assumption is that the IGN pin functions similarly to an automotive ignition sense input and requires ~12V to enable the device. Can you confirm if this is correct?

The manual indicates that IGN is optional, but since it is present in the factory cable, I want to confirm the correct implementation.

Thanks for your help.

Yes 12v to ign will power it on, check your software settings, if you intend for it to stay on after removing 12v from the ign.
