MAX BR1 Mini (HW3) is there WAN speed limit?

Hello. I have MAX BR1 Mini (HW3). I purchased feature pack separately.

I read in faq that rated throughput of this router is 300 Mbps. Does it apply also when it is connected to internet through its 1 Gbps WAN port?

My observation seems to show there is such limit. I have 500 Mbps connection and when connected through different router (Unifi EdgeRouter POE-5) - I can see about that speed on speedtest.net
but when connecting through Peplink I observer 250-300 Mbps max?

Is there actual limit on WAN port?

The port speed is 1gb/sec but the “capacity” of the router is lower – a very common situation with many products by many manufacturers. I suspect what you are seeing is consistent with Peplink’s published specifications.

It’s not a “hard” limit, but the theoretical max the hardware can process. Each feature you enable will further reduce the 300mbps. I with they would publish a proper sizing guide that explains the performance impact of each feature. For instance, I have a number of BR1 Mini HW3’s that have the heavy half of their features turned on, the throughput tops around 50mbps, but for the application, that’s perfectly fine. If you need full 500mbps performance, a BR1 Pro is required.

After using peplink devices for a while, you kinda get a feel for it. My general rule is to use their specs to figure out which model you think is right, then get the next higher one.

To build on @Rick-DC’s comment: The rated router throughput max is 300 Mbps. In our experience, the Peplink-rated capacity is close to actual TCP capacity, so for this one I would consider a reasonable expectation to be for it to be around 270 Mbps for TCP connections.
FWIW, I don’t have one of these units on hand, so the above is an extrapolation based on our general experience with Peplink routers.
The port capacity is 1 Gbps, which simply tells us that whatever you connect to on the WAN side can be fully utilized up to the 300 Mbps throughput capacity of the router.

Cheers,

Z.
