Managing WAN access

Hello,

We are using a Peplink Balance Device
we want to raise our bandwidth, is-it more interesting to add new link or raise only the bandwidth on our existing link ?

Thanks in advance

Hi ITJO,

That depends on a few factors. What Balance are you using? Would you like redundancy in the office? If you would like redundancy, will you be using SpeedFusion/PepVPN at all? As we do offer load balancing, this won’t give you higher over-all speed, but it will be fully able to take advantage of both WANs.

If one WAN is fine and you’re looking to get more speed, you can increase the bandwidth. If you’re looking for failover, you’d want to get the new link.

Thank you ZAch_Tangen,

We are looking for more speed so i think we wil increase the badwith of our link.

Best regards

Hi @ITJO Well, you can certainly do that. However, if you increase the capacity of the existing WAN rather than add a second one you potentially miss the main features of the Balance line of routers – WAN redundancy, load balancing and fail-over. If, say, we had a choice of one carrier with a capacity of 100/10 or two carriers, each of which was 50/5, we’d go for the second alternative almost every time. Now, there are many situations where the second alternative will yield less bandwidth than the first but the pay-off is huge in terms of reliability.

There is a wealth of information here on the forum regarding this. And, Peplink’s literature is instructive as well. And, finally, I’d recommend contacting a Peplink “Partner” for more information.
