MAC Address List filtering

I am looking at purchasing the Balance 710 and have been using the demo interface.

Everything looks good except i need to be able to authenticate and block users by mac address.

to simplify i have 4 vlans (a,b,c,d)
only traffic in address list is allowed to leave via a.
traffic from address list is dropped if on vlan b,c,d

the point is to manually add my staff to their vlan and if they discover the password to the guest wifi they are blocked. i understand if they get the password to b,c,d before i register them they will be able to use it.

does anyone know if i can accomplish this on the balance hardware.

You can cetianly block based on MAC #s, there are two ways and both need to be individually entered

  • You can create an outbound policy
  • You can create an outbound firewall rule

We have sites that uses the outbound policy to control outbound internat access in addition to an internal firewall rule to block MAC #s from traversing VLANs
