Global eSIM providers are becoming very prevalent these days. And now that Peplink has full support for eSIM in 8.4 and 8.5, is there a list somewhere, either managed by Peplink or another official source, that shows the providers that are proven to work with Peplink routers??? I haven’t found such a list and find myself having to test out each eSIM’s from each of the different providers (Holafly, Airlo, etc) only to discover they don’t fully support Peplink routers as hotspots or have no support for multiple devices on a single eSIM. Would love to see a list of fully compatible international eSIM providers if anyone can point me to one!
Any updates on this?
Such list will really help.
Have you managed to create a list on your own?
Sorry. No real progress. Especially for the Caribbean where my customers are eager to use roaming eSIM plans. I have personally tested several of the popular “travel” eSIM’s like Saily, Airlo and Holafly. None of these supported hotspots or routers at the time I tested. I’ve been using Google Fi as a backup to Starlink but it’s limited to 2 months before you have to repatriate to the US for a couple of weeks (to reset the roaming period). Works fine though.
I’ve just tried today with Holofly, and it loaded just fine, but it can’t find an IP address. I guess we’ll just have to hope someone in Support develops an interest in this issue.
Cheers.
Paul.
The issue isn’t the Peplink device, the issue is the carrier. Most of the Travel eSIM plans are designed for handset devices (iPhones, android phones, etc.). Next, the eSIMs require an SM-DP+ server and process to manage the eSIM activation. You either need an LPA string (activation code) as a string or QR code, or you need it to push to the device. SM-DP+ Push isn’t that reliable of a mechanism on routers, including Peplink, but Peplink is one of the few that support eSIM discovery for this, and it has to be manually triggered using IC2.
@Gary_Bird , to your comment, Airalo (as an example) 100% supports hotspots and manual eSIM activation: What Is an SM-DP+ Address? - Airalo Blog and What is SM-DP+ Address? All you need to know - Holafly both discuss manual eSIM activation on their platforms, which can be done using IC2 on a Peplink device that supports eSIM. Airalo also has a help article specifically about hotspotting: Can You Hotspot with an eSIM? - Airalo Blog
If you need something more reliable than this, consider the Peplink eSIM (which works in some countries abroad) as well as other solutions that Peplink partners sell, including us at Llama Networks.
Paul, this is usually an issue with your APN. Make sure your APN is set correctly for Holafly’s environment.
