IP Passthrough/bridge question

Hello.

Can you suggest me a peplink device model with 5G modem with bridge functionality? I want to use peplink device as a ISP backup WAN connection but i would like to use my public IP from SIM card on my firewall.

Best, Daniel

It sounds like the functionality you need is “IP passthrough.” If one goes here one can see the various MAX devices which may meet your requirements. I would probably choose the BR1 Pro 5G which is shown in the first column.

In the upper right corner there is an option to compare the Balance series of products as well.
Depending on the router to which you wish to add 5G the MAX Adapter may also work for you.

I will use FortiGate firewall. Will “IP Passthrough” allow me to add IP of SIM card on FortiGate device?

I am not all that familiar with the Fortigate and its requirements – have not touched one in a couple of years. The IP address assigned by the carrier (not IP of SIM card) will be passed through to the device connected to the LAN side (here, presumably the Fortigate,) which is generally what is desired. I believe a single non-routable address will also be passed through, according to the settings the admin set. Here’s a copy of the help pop-up pertaining to this:

We setup a Fortinet behind a br1 pro 5g earlier today.
Set the peplink wan to ip passthru
Make sure no other devices are connected to the pepwave.
The first device that receives a dhcp address will pass thru the public ip.
Set their Fortinet to dhcp and it will receive the static ip.
If you know the static ip that will be passed thru you can also go ahead and put that static ip on the downstream router as well.

We are a peplink partner and can provide a peplink device and a verizon plan with static ip.
PM or e-mail me at [email protected] if you would like us to order you one and help you set it up.
