Hello @user0815,
The antennas that are shipped with all Peplink/Pepwave equipment are good to get you started, for higher end applications you need to look into to application specific antennas and equipment.

The supplied GPS antennas and the internal GPS systems are never going to be as good as the professional systems out there (well not at the price point Peplink can offer us all). We have clients who use GPS on a professional basis, the antennas alone are over several hundred US$ or even more and that is before you add in the electronics to decode and create the GPS reference for the various applications, these are used by surveyors, on the huts for tower communications and as well for broadcasters with timing systems.

When you first power up a GPS receiver, the GPS antenna needs time to acquire (listen into) the signals being broadcast from the over head satellites moving around the earth, your antenna needs to have good clear unobstructed visibility overhead if your want a reasonably usable GPS signal. If you are comparing to your mobile phone, your mobile phone is often using the GPS system at the cell tower and a combination of complex triangulation and RF echos to assist your phone work out its approximate location along with other references that are built up over time.

GPS Antennas as used in the Pepwave MAX are an active antenna, in that the antenna needs to receive the right power to operate the require antenna electronics. We have seen people attempt to use passive antennas or mixed up there antennas and wonder why the results on the GPS are poor or not working.

If you suspect your GPS antenna is faulty, contact your place of purchase to organise getting another GPS antenna. Alternatively you can check here on the Peplink website for your nearest Peplink Certified Partners as the antennas are available as spares to purchase.

Happy to Help,
Marcus

Hi Marcus, thank you for your information.

I search for an solution to speed up the GPS Fix.

GPS is working,
but it takes really a long time for a connection to be
established. (3 - 8 min)
:-/

Can i use the Data from the active SIM Cards in the Router (Signal Stength)
to use it for a better GPS Navigation ?

thank you,
have a nice Day

Wilbo.

Can you elaborate more for the above ? 3-8 minutes ? How you verify on this ? Do you able to advice your device use case ?
