I killed a Surf SOHO

I upgraded a Surf SOHO (MK3 third gen) from firmware 8.2.1 to 8.3.2 and it appears dead. There are no more release notes on the Peplink site, so my question: is this a legit upgrade? Did I have to upgrade to an intermediate firmware first? The router’s own check for updates said to use 8.3.2.

The status and Wifi lights are both green (so I was told, its remote to me). I can no longer get in remotely via IP address. Yes, the IP may have changed, but it had not changed before across reboots. The end user reports that the Wifi networks appear available but 3 devices all asked for the Wifi password despite their having already saved the password and it was not changed. No InControl available.

Hello Michael,

If devices Status LED indicator is green, then device most likely is functioning properly. If IC2 is not available and for some reason customer cannot access the device via WIFI, then they should try to access the device from LAN side. Devices latest available firmware is 8.3.2 and if auto upgrader allowed to instal it without “bridge” upgrades, means that upgrade path was Ok. If you need additional assistance regarding the case, you can create ticket here and support team will help you with investigation.

Laurynas

Thank you for confirming that the upgrade path is OK. Also, good to know that the status/wifi lights are to be trusted. Yes, Ethernet is the next option.

My fault for not using DDNS, if the DDNS provider saw an update when the router restarted, it is, at the least, a sign of life showing it booted correctly.

Tempted to blame the router owner, but 2 macbook laptops and an iphone all failed to connect to wifi. Puzzling. Thanks again.
