Is there a list of Icloud hosts so it can be completely blocked?
I googled this and did not find much. Most of their services are using 443 so trying to do this at the port level will not work. Good luck!
Hello @ReeXNeeX
These are some of the better articles I know of on the internet about managing access to Apple’s iCloud platform. Apple, as you will read, have very carefully crafted the iCloud platform so it is very difficult to manage restricting access to the iCloud platform both at the network edge and internally on networks.
See how you go with this extra information:
- Do search with you favorite search engine for “how to setup firewall to restrict access to icloud”

Great stuff Marcus, thanks a lot!
Hello, can you share the reason for blocking iCloud services (just curious)?
Basically it clogges our poor internet connection, so removing useless
traffic from some 40 mobile phones it will help!
Hello @Michael_Ginsberg and @ReeXNeeX,
In some parts of the world, the cost of cellular/mobile data is extremely cheap (such as we’ve seen when visiting Vietnam a few years ago, we got unlimited mobile broadband for 28 days for just fifteen ($15) US dollars when buying a SIM at the Airport, putting the SIM in a device and sharing that with twelve people for two weeks, we used about 200Gigs of data from memory), one of the best we have experienced when travelling and the SIM work everywhere we went in Vietnam. In comparison here in Australia at the same time 100Gigs of casual data usage could cost you over five hundred ($500) Australian dollars (depending on the carrier), that would be about $600 US dollars at the time. In Australia there are a lot of business having to operate on costly data plans (be the connection on 3G, 4G/LTE, Wireless Broadband or Satellite). Imagine receiving a $2k bill or larger every month just for the data required to operate your business.
So we can clearly see and understand that there is absolutely a requirement for restricting network traffic from devices to help businesses (and individuals too) keeping those costs down. Apple’s iCloud is not the only service that needs to be considered, subscription entertainment streaming services too can take a big chunk of data. Blocking everything can be also counterproductive for a business attempting to operate in the modern cloud so application based management works best and choosing the best fit for a business cloud document handling and work flows is important too…
Helping to planning how your customers or your own businesses data usage will be operated is important and needs to be approached with both a people training/education proactive engagement and a technology supportive implementation.
This thread has many good requests/suggestions, and maybe it would be suitable to have the thread moved over to the feature request area or to put them into a new tread as a feature request.
We have a growing customer base using the Balance products, it has been suggested before, though having the full content filtering list of options found in the higher models of the Balance routers would be terrific to see in the Balance ONE & MAX routers too.
Happy to Help,
Marcus
I definitely agree with Marcus, an embedded feature to block specific services (android play store, apple store, Icloud, etc) would be very useful.
