How to add server to local DNS

We just installed a Peplink 210 and so far really like it. The only thing that I have not been able to do is add local DNS entries without a top level domain.

For example, I would like to add OfficeServer which is on our internal 192.168.1.x network, but the peplink returns “Invalid hostname ‘OfficeServer’”. Changing the name to OfficeServer.local or OfficeServer.ourcompany.com removes the error but will break our intranet links to http://officeserver.

Is there a way do add a single level name to the local DNS?

Hi Ted,

We have put in a feature request for you.

I have a suggestion. In DHCP Server Settings, add an Extended DHCP Option “DNS Domain Name”. Put a domain name there, say, “mydomain.com”. Then in local DNS record, create “officeserver.mydomain.com”. After your local PCs re-requested an IP, they will be able to lookup “officeserver”.
