How do you register a switch with Balance Switch controller

I have several of the new switches. I have previously registered one in inControll and can manage it from that. How do I get it so I can manage it in the switch controller in my 310x?

Also, I have additional new switches I haven’t registered at all. how do I add them to the balance router for management?

Thanks

Hi William! Connect the switches to the router’s LAN. Upgrade the router to 8.5.2 firmware and the switches to 2.0.2 firmware.

Afterwards in the router’s “Switch” section, enable the Switch Controller and add the available switches. You should now be able to manage them via this section.

Thank you for the reply.

When connected to the switch and clicking check for firmware, it says no firmware available. I’m currently on 2.0.0 build 1031. How do I upgrade firmware/why isn’t it detecting new firwmware available?

Once firmware is fixed, when you say “connect to router’s LAN” I’m assuming being connected to a switch on the LAN sign is fine and it doesn’t need to be physically connected to the router. Is that correct?

Could you then try manually uploading the firmware on the switch? You can find the firmware here, in the “Switch” section.

And yes, the switches don’t have to be connected physically to the router, they just need to be in the same broadcast domain.

OK, I’ve manually upgraded the firmware with mixed results. Now, the switch does show up and I was able to add it to my Balance 310x, so that’s a success. However, the switch now shows offline to InControl (and did so before I added it to the switch). Are these mutually exclusive? Why is it no longer visible/showing online in InControl?

Yes, this is currently a limitation - you need to choose either to manage the device via InControl2 or the Switch Controller. This limitation will be removed in future firmwares.

Do you choose by disabling the switch controller in the balance router? Thanks for the help, by the way.

Yes, currently you’d need to disable the switch controller feature on the router and reboot the switch. Then the switch should come online to InControl2.

As I’ve mentioned, in future firmware we’ll be more flexible with switch management.
