How can I Bound the traffic the best way on Pepwave MAX HD2?

We have 4 sim cards on 2 Cellular on the Pepwave MAX HD2. We use only the Cellular not the wan interface.
The problem is that we want to bound the 2 Cellular Connection with the “Outbound policy” under “Advanced”
But the problem is that what everv we do its only traffic on “Cellular 1” and werry liitle or nothing on “Cellular 2”
Only if we set the “bandwidth allowance” to zero to shutdown the “Cellular 1” the “Cellular 2” starts to generate god datatraffic. So what can be the problem?

MAX-HD2-M-LTE-E-IP67
Hardware Revision 1
Firmware 7.1.0 build 3504

Hi @Platon,

Are you trying to force ALL traffic to use Cellular connection 2, or just “some” traffic?

You could change the “Default” Outbound policy rule (from Auto to Custom , to something like this, which would push traffic to Cell 2, but not completely ignore Cell 1. If both are weighted the same and both connections are “Highest” on the Dashboard, then in theory, the HD2 should send an even amount of traffic over both connections.

However, if one connection is significantly stronger than the other, the device will favour this connection (or if the latency is high on one, it won’t send as much traffic to that connection).

Thanks,

Steve

What is the traffic? How many users / devices? Are there any video streams?

That is not the topic. The problem is that even when I set the Outbound policy at “Enforced WAN: Cellular 2”
Its still working on “Cellular 1” The mobile operators are the same. We have the antenna on the same place with the same models. The only way to make it work on “Cellular 2” is to take out the simcard or set the “Monthly Allowance” to zero 0 under “Bandwidth Allowance Monitor”

We have olso one other I MAX-HD2-M-LTE-E-IP67
but it is Hardware Revision 2 Where the load balancing is working perfect between Cellular 1 and 2.

See the answer to MartinLangmaid

This two MAX-HD2-M-LTE-E-IP67 are connected to a
Model:Peplink Balance 580
Firmware:5.4.10 build 3072

and a SpeedFusion VPN tunnel that is going to the serversite with a Peplink 780 as a reciver.

Ok so you need to clarify the topology of the devices with the issue here so I can get on topic.

If you are using SpeedFusion Bonding and are wondering why you’re seeing data on both cellular connections thats because by default all the WAN connections set as priority 1 in the SpeedFusion VPN profile will be used and the lowest latency WAN will be favoured.

If you only want to use a single cellular WAN in the speedfusion VPN at any one time you need to change the priority of the WANs in the profile - outbound policy will not affect the way SPeedFusion uses the available WANs.

We do not use speedfusion on the modem only on the pelink 580.
If you read carfull my inital question maybe you understand what the problem is. If not I´m not god at explain the problem.

Question is still not clear. Please draw a network diagram to explain it.

What is confusing is that you are using SpeedFusion / PepVPN between the HD2 and B580 and you are also trying to use outbound policies.

What is the purpose of the B580? Is it to bond the two cellular connections on the HD2?
Does all traffic get sent out to the internet via the B580?

The HD2 modems are NOT using SpeedFusion / PepVPN!
It´s connected in to one of the 5 wan in the 580 that ARE using speed fusion VPN.
Then we have other modems on the other wan on the 580.
So the HD2 is only working as modem nothing else.
My problem is that the trafik on the HD2 HW1 modem is always on cellular 1 what ever settings in the “Outbound policy” It´s strong mobile signal on all modems and the antennas and operators are the same.
We have also change the simcards. BUT! the HD2 modem HW2 is working as it should that is sitting on WAN 2 ON the 580. Its some times hard to get on the right wave-length

Hi @Platon,

Please could you raise a support ticket > Here < and we’ll troubleshoot this with you.
