Honeywell Redlink gateway -- router connection drops after 1-2 minutes

Use a Balance580 running firmware 8.5.1. For years have operated Honeywell THM6000R1002 Redlink internet gateway without issue. Something has changed. The router connection to the Redlink gateway keeps dropping after about 60 seconds. It is on a reserved IP address via DCHP.

There are suggestions in the blogosphere that the Redlink device is pinging Honeywell servers every 5 seconds, and that many advanced routers interpret that as a DoS attack. I have enabled firewall access in and out from the relevant IP address. I have rebooted everything. I’ve changed ports and cables. Still dropping.

Is there any router setting that may be getting in the way of this? Something I’ve missed?

Something originating from inside pinging out usually skips most DoS filters. First, please update your 580 to 8.5.4. after that, I’d run a PCAP to see what’s happening on the LAN side and the WAN side.

What are your symptoms of “router connection to the Redlink gateway keeps dropping” ? Is it hardwired and link status is flapping? Or, is it not responding to ping? both ways?

Thank you. Things suddenly started working, even before I updated to the latest firmware. It now has a solid lock on the Honeywell server. I now think there was an issue on the Honeywell side. Perhaps something failed and over the July 4 weekend it took them a while to fix it.

Really appreciate the thoughtful response and help.
