We are starting to see a need for 2Gbps or higher router throughput. The use case is higher-end fiber networks with 2Gbps presented on a 10Gbps port on the ONT, but with a need to offer cellular failover when the fiber is offline. The desire is to actually get full use of the higher speed fiber, while retaining the ability to fail over to cellular. At present none of the MAX line has router throughput over 1Gbps. Boosting speed and adding higher speed Ethernet ports on a few models would be helpful.
The MAX MBX HD2 and the B310X both support 2.5Gbps of throughput, but the rest of the MAX range is limited to 1Gbps as you note.
I have high hopes for the next gen of routing platforms, we’re already seeing other vendors support 10Gbps + on low cost routers using the Qualcomm network processcors. I can’t imagine Peplink will be very far behind…
Agree- not just higher routing throughput, but higher SDWAN throughput and higher interface speeds.
More devices with multigig copper ports and sfp+/sfp28 ports!
We are working on that… some higher throughput and very serious network interfaces will be supported. Stay tuned!
We’re more than a year from when I started this thread. And here we have new variants of the BR1 5G and BR2 5G, and the router throughput is 1Gbps.
One of the other responses in this thread mentioned two routers in the line that have 2.5Gbps throughput, but since those routers lack Ethernet ports that go beyond 1Gbps, they’re not interesting, either.
The use case that Peplink is missing is connectivity backup in the age of fiber to the home and office. 2Gbps bidirectional fiber is now common and affordable. Having cellular or Starlink backup to that fiber is something that is of interest. The router would need to be able to sustain the 2Gbps bidirectional service on both the Ethernet ports and router throughput when the fiber link is up.
We are looking at other vendors due to the lack of functionality in the Peplink line for this need.
The B310 is around the corner. It has dual 2.5GE WAN (one has PoE output) and 4x10GE LAN switch.
Also the new B580X has a lot of multiGig interfaces too. They are available in the next couple weeks.
This makes my day. Thank you very much for the update. ![]()
Hoping eventually there’ll be higher speeds available in the MAX line. For remote/home offices, having fiber with cellular backup is ideal, with 2Gbps fiber now common. Will be interesting to see if the B310 will meet a price point that works for home offices for remote employees.
New B310 will be replacement for balance 310 or balance 310x?
There will be a new 310X as well - best you reach out to your distributor/reseller for the latest in your region.
Super happy to see the release of the 310. Since there was a mention of a new 310X, which is a better fit for my environment, does anyone have any thoughts as to when the “X” version might get a release?
