Hi,
we have recently bought two HD4 MBX units. We are going to use these on our OB vans using the Peplink 82G antenna.
My question is regarding the WIFI antenna connections on the HD4. Are these separate connections for WIFI WAN and for the access point (as shown in this picture 2.5Gbps Quad Cellular Gigabit Cellular Mobile Powerhouse — MAX HD4 MBX- Peplink)? With the 82G mounted on the roof the WIFI coverage inside the van is probably not great.
We are not going to make use of WIFI WAN. Can we connect the 82G to the WIFI 1 connections and use internal antenna on the WIFI 2 connectors for example?
Wifi connection are MIMO 2x2 and by standard they use both antennas… because you will don’t going to use the external wifi connection… You can use both standard WiFi antennas.
thank you for your answer. If I’m understanding correctly, MIMO 2x2 means two antenna connections. So if I want WIFI coverage inside and outside the van, can I use the two WIFI 1 connections for the external antenna and connect two internal flag antennas to the WIFI 2 connectors?
On the MBX, you have two WiFi radios. In the AP settings, you can select between AP / AP+WAN / WAN.
AP: Both radios are used for AP.
AP+WAN: One radio is used for AP, the other for WiFi WAN.
WAN: Both radios are used for WiFi WAN.
In your case, it sounds like you want both radios selected for AP. I would have one cable from the 82G to WiFi radio 1, and the other to WiFi radio 2, and use the included WiFi antenna whips for the secondary connections on each radio to get full diversity for both radios.
