Got a question from a customer case.
Having now a Balance 20X - but looking to upgrade with a Balance 380.
Customer is now asking whether its possible to use both boxes in a HA setup - running 380 as active and 20X as the backup.
Would this work - or does the hardware (and firmware) in a HA setup have to be the exact same?
So Peplink devices can be in a VRRP pair with any device that supports VRRP (examples here ) so yes you can use different models BUT you can’t sync config between the models of course so some features are not available compared to when you use the same model.

To build on @MartinLangmaid’s answer: As it happened we were recently running an HA pair of B380 + B20X (after a backup B380 died on us). It works splendidly as long as you are accepting the fact that you have to keep the two in sync manually (rather than automatically, as would be the case with two identical devices).
We found that we could get close to automatic synchronization of (the key) elements of the configuration by means of IC2 and an appropriate tagging of features.
Test “failures” of the B380 switched control to the backup B20X with nary a hitch.
Having said all that: We are reverting to having two identical devices as our HA pair, principally because of laziness (avoiding even a small bit of time and mind-space for proper sync maintenance is worth the investment in our use case).
Good luck,
Z

Guys - thx for the quick reply. Seems to be possible - but with some manual labour involved.
Hello Martin
I’m currently facing a similar situation.
My customer is using Peplink Balance 1350 devices for internet load balancing at both their office building and data center. They are now considering upgrading to the Balance 1350EC model, which supports 10G interfaces.
I would like to clarify whether it is possible to configure HA between a Balance 1350 and a Balance 1350EC, or if HA is only supported between identical models (e.g., 1350–1350 or 1350EC–1350EC).
Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.
