Using Balance 310 Fiber 5G with Firmware 8.5.1 build 5955. We are experiencing an issue where the Slave takes over with no errors in the Master log to explain the reason for the failover. It requires a cold boot of the Master to hand back control.
Hi…
This bpl-310 is becoming very hot?
Maybe not what is happening with your device, but people are having some issues with B-ONE, running 8.5.1 and QoS enable by default.
The current temps of 310’s we have in operation are 59 ℃ / 138.2 ℉ and 58 ℃ / 136.4 ℉ and they are in temperature controlled rooms.
Hello…
Maybe you can try this…
Below… it is a bpl-305 inside of datacenter.
So… Even installed in a controlled environment, the equipment remains very hot.
Maybe can be cpu-throttling?
System instability: Applications may crash or freeze due to inconsistent performance levels.

Enabling the watchdog timer would help, as it will reboot the primary when it crashes instead of requiring manual reboot.
Peplink have a special build of 8.5.1 that has stability improvements in it for the 310 5G/Fiber 5G and you should lodge a ticket with Peplink to get that.
Thank you. I was able to get it today and have it applied. Hopefully that will resolve the issue.
I’ve run into something similar before with failovers, and it turned out to be a mix of connection issues and occasional firmware bugs. It might be worth double-checking the network stability between the Master and Slave units, especially if there’s any congestion or interference. Also, I found that sometimes even small glitches in the firmware can cause weird behavior like this, so updating to the latest patch or rolling back to a more stable version might help. If the issue persists, contacting support with a detailed log can often shed more light on the root cause.
