I just recently purchased a peplink eSIM paired with a B One 5G and am wondering how i can select which carrier it connects to. I see no options in the GUI to do so, like there is for physical SIMs. Any ideas?
Without getting too deep in to how it’s working on a business level, the card has a preferred and backup carriers in the order they want to use. Likely this is based on how much it is costing per gig for each carrier in each region.
That said, I have not messed with this because all 4 carriers in my area lease tower space from 1 company and the name changes nothing, but they didn’t actually block this at all. There are 2 ways forward:
1:
Log in to the web admin page
click the name of the cell connection you want to modify
![]()
Click the question mark next to carrier selection and click the blue here
Next use the scroll bar at the bottom of this dialog to go right till you can see the ESIM card instead of just SIM A and SIM B and select Manual Select
A box will open, select Scan, wait for results and select what you want, hit OK, then Save and Apply. Might also have to apply changes globally too, not sure.
2: ALTERNAT WAY, only try this is the above fails
If the carriers in your area use different bands, you can instead select the bands for just the carrier you want it to default to, it’s in basically the same spot, just a few lines lower
As soon as you click custom, it will fill an entire list of all the bands that your modem can do, uncheck everything except what you want it to connect to then Save and apply the changes.
The flaw with doing either of these methods is that you loose your redundancy of fail over to the alternate carrier, if you don’t have physical access to the device or another sim card in the device and the tower is down (or swaps hardware and changes bands) you will need to physically go to the device and log in locally because InControl2 isn’t going to be up either.
Hey thanks for the help. I did not see that scroll bar at the bottom which is how i missed the options for eSIM. Knew i was missing something.
Was able to select the carrier for eSIM however some carriers it would not connect to. We have 3 here (AT&T Verizon TMobile). So far only TMobile works when manually selected.
thanks agin
