Dual Router Setup w/VPN?

I have the following at my house:

  • PepLink Surf Soho w/Open VPN Client
  • Balance 30 Pro. Can’t install Open VPN on Balance 30 Pro (RMA issues).
  • Uplink is via USB to LTE hotspot. 4G LTE@10-40 Mbps down.
  • Provider is Calyx through T-Mobil (video is throttled, hence VPN)
  • VPN is Proton.

At the moment, running surf soho with 3 VLANs: 1) work computers, 2) personal laptops, and 3) IOT/Streaming (associated with OpenVPN WAN).

No hardwired LAN ports (WiFi access only), unless need to hook up laptop for some direct config on the router.

Balance 30 is powered off - as it doesn’t support OpenVPN license due to RMA.

Wondering if there would be any benefit to running the IOT/VPN only on the Surf Soho, and using the B30 Pro to host the other two VLANs which might (my theorizing) - improve Wifi since it’s now distributed over two routers, and maybe slightly improve VPN performance because router processing dedicated solely to VPN WAN (although impacted by an extra hop?).

So:

Would this be a stupid configuration?

If not - and it is feasible, what are the basic steps (excluding VPN setup) to configure this? I assume some sort of service passthrough on the Balance 30?

So - how do I configure Balance 30 LAN port to feed DHCP to Soho WAN?

Any configuration required on SOHO WAN?

What do I have to do with IPSEC NAT-T service for passthrough from B30 to SOHO?

Simply put, how do I get this to work with the least amount of grief?

Thanks!
