DNS records on a peplink one core

Hi ,

I use a peplink balance one core as OpenVPN server to access the local network of my enterprise. I have a local web server and i need to work on it from this openvpn connection. I 've added the local dns record in DNS proxy settings
When i use the local IP of the web server, i can join it but when i use the name it’s not working. It’s working from the lan.
When i do a dnslookup of the name, my laptop (OpenVPN client) give me the good ip of the web server but not possible to access it with his name on a web browser .
What can i do ?

if you do a nslookup on your laptop you get the right IP for the webserver?
Can you then ping that IP?

Hi yes i get the right ip for the webserver.
I can ping that IP but not his name (Ping request could not find host)

any idea?? thanks in advance

I’m Confused.

  • If you can directly ping the webserver IP and get a response that is good - routing is working.
  • If you can do a nslookup against the dns name and the IP returned is the same as the one you can ping then that is also good - dns is working.

If routing is working, and dns is working, then there has to be a firewall issue - can’t think of another reason.

Is it internal webserver on windows? Sometimes the firewall will block other private network subnets tahn its own from accessing it.

i’am confused too… no it’s an apache server on ubuntu with ufw disabled

Check the access logs after you attempt to connect using the url. can you see your get requests hitting apache?

@fred3 ,
are your domains in FQDN format? example(host.domainname.com).
Is your device’s DNS server set to balance one IP?

If still not working, please open ticket for us to check further. Please enable Remote Assistance on the device when you open ticket.

Thank you.

you were right ! i 've changed the hostname from xxxx to xxxx.local on my server then i made the modification on the pep and it’s working now. Thank you very much, you can close the ticket.
