For testing purposes, I configured a WAN port on Static IP 192.168.1.20, does it prevent access points connected to peplink from getting proper DNS ?

If the LAN and WAN subnets are unique everything will route properly. Otherwise the AP I am assuming is setup in bridged mode to let the Balance or ISP Router control DHCP requests otherwise by default under Network>LAN: All the way at the bottom you will see the DNS Proxy setting which is on by default, so the Balance would handle the DNS requests, which the wireless clients would also, go through.
