DHCP reservations and local DNS Records

I’m updating my entire infrastructure and now have a Balance One running 7.1.1 build 3775.

I have assigned static DHCP reservations to all my eqpt so I can split to contained subnets and then (when I fully understand them) into vlans for security, IP cameras on there for instance.

However from my FreeBSD box I could see no name resolution for these static DHCP named boxes. I have now added all of them manually to the local DNS records section. Local addresses are now resolved.

Have I missed something here, is that the correct/preferred way to do this? The manual shows nothing I can find.

I do see old requests:Table sorting (which would be nice), Dynamic Updates to Local DNS from DHCP clients (which is close).

If it is correct then why can’t I cut-n-paste that section, csv format option maybe as DHCP, or just import the DHCP static table?

Thanks.
