DHCP reservation by host name

I’m using a B One with firmware 8.5.0 build 5636. My request is to enhance the built-in DHCP server to consider the host name requested by the client when looking up reserved IP addresses. There are two scenarios in which I hope this would be useful.

  1. A home office has a USB-C docking station wired to a LAN port. Various household computers can be docked there in addition to the business laptop. All computers use the MAC address of docking station’s Ethernet port by default. The admin wants to reserve specific IPs for particular clients, but the Peplink router does not support multiple DHCP reservations with the same known MAC address and different host names. A potential workaround is to configure the clients to use locally-administered MAC addresses; that is easier in some operating systems than in others. It would be simpler from this admin’s perspective to configure multiple DHCP reservations with the same known MAC address which are distinguished by the client’s requested host name.
  2. An admin would like to reserve IP addresses for particular L2TP clients, but the L2TP connection uses an ad-hoc MAC address (as I understand it). This is similar to (1), but with an unknown MAC address.
