As part of my device provisioning/fleet management process, I am working with my team to build a pipeline that allows end customers to apply a one-time name to their device upon ordering it through the IC2 API.
I have seen a recent (2025) thread noting that the IC2 API currently does not work to apply a name to a device. I have the following questions regarding this, if anyone has run into anything similar or has some insight:
- Is there any current plan to implement this as a feature? This is a pretty standard endpoint/attribute to expose for fleet management
- If not, what is the reasoning for this?
- Does anyone have any suggested work-arounds for this? I have delved a bit into using the actual Peplink device API, but this seems a roundabout solution that is prone to issues such as IC2 overriding any local device level changes.
