I plan to install a BR2 Pro in a car (2x 5G + Starlink) and a FusionHub Solo in a data center, connecting it to the BR2 via SpeedFusion. This will be used for the car’s regular internet connection. I also need a VPN to one or two other networks equipped with Unifi devices. In order to take advantage of the SpeedFusion Link for the VPN, the VPN connection (IPSec) to both networks would have to be established from the FusionHub. I haven’t been able to find any instructions or confirmation that this is possible.
Can anyone confirm that this works? Are additional licenses required, or is the PrimeCare+ for the BR2 Pro sufficient? Is there any way I can test this before purchasing the BR2 Pro? Just to see if the IPSec connection from Unifi to the FusionHub works.
Or are there better options? Perhaps a second FusionHub Solo in one of the two networks and then directly from the BR2 Pro to the second FusionHub for the VPN?
The part from the BR2 Pro to the FusionHub and the internet is clear. The main question is, can I establish a connection to the FusionHub from any IPSec-capable router (in this case, the Unifi Cloud Gateway Max) so that I can access the local LAN from the BR2 Pro.
Unfortunately, I can’t use a Peplink router in the office, at least not at the moment.
Think of FusionHub as your concentrator and the UniFi and BR2 as edge devices. We use SpeedFusion to build the tunnel to FusionHub (it doesn’t use a license as long as it’s under PrimeCare).
For the UniFi gear you can, as you noted, build IPSec tunnels from the FusionHub to the UniFi gear. Each FusionHub ↔ UniFi connection will use one connection so you would need a license to add connections on the FusionHub.
Is there a way to test the FusionHub Essential for a few days? I would like to test the VPN connection from Unifi to the FusionHub before ordering the BR2 Pro.
If I understand correctly, I need at least the Essential version to connect a BR2 Pro to FusionHub via Speedfusion and the FusionHub to two local LANs using IPSec.
You can download it from Incontrol2, for free… License to one device.
" To acquire a Peplink FusionHub license, log into InControl 2, navigate to “Warranty and License,” select “Acquire FusionHub License,” and choose either the “Solo License” for single Peplink routers or a license based on throughput and supported peers "
As Marcelo said, you can get the Solo version for free to try. To answer your direct question, no, there are no trial of the higher license tiers. I’m happy to get you the higher license when you’re ready to purchase, but for now you’ll need to use Solo to test your connections.
