A few basic setup questions, please. Balance 20X firmware 8.5. Adding External AP1 and using external controller in the router. Under AP → Settings a window showing “Default” and “Used By”. Under “Used By” appears the serial number of my Balance Router. Is this correct, or an earlier setup mistake?
Do I require 2 AP Profiles on this setup page (one for the router internal AP, and one for the AP1 external AP?
Even though this setup with one profile seems to be working, what if I want to configure each AP separately?
What is a rule-of-thumb for operating both radios on the same profile (I assume that’s what I’ve done)? Is anything gained by simultaneous radio operation, or should the Balance 20X internal AP radios be turned off?
Thank you!
Sparky
I have a B One which has a builtin AP and two AP One AX Lite
I am a newbie, so I might not know what I have done…
but I was able to have the B One control the two AP
I have one profile used by all three, and I keep the built-in AP in the B One turned on, all three radios seem to work together, roaming inside the house seems smooth. most IoT clients seem to connect to the B One, even though, at least some should get a better signal from a closer AP One… but good enough.
Thanks for your reply. You point out a setup difficulty that should be documented much more specifically in the O.M. That is, the function of the AP Profiles. As you demonstrated, you can run all 3 AP’s on one profile. However setting up with 3 profiles will allow you to tweak the options for each AP individually. In my opinion, configuring the AP profiles is one of least intuitive and confusing parts of installing an external AP onto an existing WiFi router. While adding a profile, I would like to have the ability to enter the serial numbers of each piece of externally controlled equipment. As it is, at least in the Balance 20X, secret tabs are available that complete each profile setup to include the serial numbers as the router associates them.
Thanks,
