Cellular signal threshold

Hi,

Is it possible to set a signal threshold for cellular interfaces which may trigger a couple of actions like: failing health-check, switching to redundant SIM, e-mail notification and event log?

Thanks,
Kadir

Hi Kadir,

I guessing you are looking at the signal threshold that can trigger the cellular WAN fail over to Redundant SIM. Beside that, you are requesting also whether if cellular existed the signal threshold should send email notification with a event logs.

Cellular signal are vary from time to time especially when the device is moving. Possible to let us know the use case for the signal threshold ? Any special requirement from the production network that you need this feature ?

Thank You

An ISP is planning to use the MAX routers to provide LTE backup for their MPLS-VPN customers. The devices will be fixed in a location but they experienced that environment can change in time (a new building can be built between the device and cell tower, antenna positions might change by mistake, etc.) and they want to be notified if a major change occurs in the signal after the installation.

Another use case is, some customers want to install redundant SIM cards from different mobile operators and trigger SIM failover if signal goes below a threshold value. This would be useful especially for the marine applications because most of the time the first SIM can stay connected even if the signal is very poor and clients suffer due to the low bandwidth. However in the same area the second operator could have a better coverage and could provide higher bandwidth.

Thanks,
Kadir

Hi Kadir,

Engineering team will further consider the feasibility for the requested feature - cellular WAN fail over based on the signal threshold.

For cellular WAN signal monitoring, IC2 will had the comprehensive report for that. For more information, please refer to the attached screenshot.
