Cell ID uncomplete?

Hi,

I want to understand the meaning of the cell ID. The attached screenshots shows Cell ID number: 50263. From the local network provider I learned that the serving cell is: 8253195351 (=decimal format).

Any idea how to convert/extract the correct cell information?

Hi Jasper,

Info returned by the modem should be enough to locate the cell. Internal data reported by Proximus is not easy to link with any public database (been there, suffered a lot…).

If you need to correlate operator info with incontrol, cellid won’t be easy to use, iccid or imsi, are the only true keys.

Peplink InControl has built-in feature to convert these infos into a position. Go in your organization settings and configure this

If you need more help, we could have a call to review your needs.

The built in feature approximates the gps location of the device, often we want to know the gps of the tower that it connected to. Which I can find after some digging with cellmapper in the us.
Would love to have an api, to convert the cellid to tower location for pointing.

You could use the Cell ID calculator from Cellmapper:

Fill in the UTRAN Cell ID found in the engineering data on the dashboard:

This should give you the correct Cell ID.

Hope this helps.
