Can Peplink InTouch Access Local Webserver Behind CGNAT on 5G Connection?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to use Peplink InTouch to access a webserver hosted on a local device connected to a Peplink Balance 310. The Balance 310 is only connected via 5G, which is behind CGNAT.

However, whenever I try to connect, I consistently receive the error message: “InTouch device connection timeout.”

Has anyone successfully used InTouch in a similar setup? Is there any specific configuration I need to adjust, or is it not possible to achieve this due to the CGNAT?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

What you are doing is exactly what InTouch was built for. Sounds like traffic is getting to the target device but there is no response.
There are compatibility modes to try have you tested those?

If it still doesn’t work you’ll need to run a network capture to work out what is going on I think.

Hi, power2bit.

Are you using a Peplink FusionHub to build your inTouch connection?

I’m testing a straightforward setup where I’m running a vanilla Nginx web server locally on my PC. This PC is physically connected to a Peplink Balance 310 via Ethernet.

For this test, I am not using FusionHub. Instead, I’ve logged into InControl and configured InTouch to access the server. I’ve also tried all available compatibility modes.

However, I consistently encounter the same issue: I cannot view the basic landing page of my Nginx server through InTouch.

It’s worth noting that accessing the same web page from another device on the same LAN works perfectly fine, without any issues.

So its probably the most basic of all use cases. But for some reason it fails to work.

After updating the firmware to 8.5 just now it simply works without any issues!
