we are doing corporate event livestreams mostly from hotel venues.
We always have an internet in the venues but this is not always reliable.
So we need a failsafe internet connection.
The models BR1 G5 and UBR Plus would be in our price range.
Which one is more suitable? Or an other model?
Do we only need the hot failover or is the fusion bonding more recommended? (speed is mostly not the issue - only total blackout of the hotel network or blocked ports in the firewall)
ps.
As i understood we need for all models a subscription plan?
whats your overall budget? what carriers and plans are you looking at? are you purchasing priority data from those carriers? if you get regular data or it becomes deprioritized, the cellular could become useless.
personally i would want 2-3+ WANs for something mission critical. speedfusion smoothing and FEC should be considered. depends how mission critical.
many hotels are capable of providing a hard wire ethernet connection. i have yet to come across a venue with unreliable internet. any that host events typically have good internet and some even have multiple ISPs for redundancy.
my current setup i have hard wire WAN via fiber, then backup Starlink, and backup cellular. on another setup i have WiFi WAN, two cellular carriers, and starlink.
Our hotel venues all have hard wired ethernet. But you never know how reliable. Theres is also mostly no full time IT-Technician present.
What we need is a backup for the hotel internet.
This is why we consider a Peplink with cellular carriers.
We can only use standard mobile carrier internet plans. We do not have access to priority data plans.
I usually advise to invest in a strong bonding central router and favor little PoE powered routers for cellular reception, they are then easier to move around to catch good signal, especially in an hotel venue with thick windows.
A 310X (or B2 Pro) and several br1 mini 5G is a good start. If you plan to do heavier stuff, NDI etc, look for a SDX as central point. I’d avoid to put all your money in ONE MBX, you have much less flexibility.
The answer to that is do you have access to decent 5G reception?
Your use case is a good one for Speedfusion Cloud- use the hotel internet and cellular to create a tunnel to Speedfusion cloud using wan smoothing, which will seamlessly use all connections.
UBR plus would give you hotel internet plus 2x 4G, BR1 5G would give you hotel internet plus 1x 5G. If you have good 5G coverage, that would be better but dual 4G allows you to have a 4G connection active from two different carriers at the same time.
(the max transit duo pro might be better than the UBR Plus- better wifi and more throughput).
Do i need for this solutions the PrimeCare Subsciption or can i just configure the devices locally?
I know i need a separate Speefusion Server for wan smoothing.
All in all i need only 10-20mb/s upload for 2-3 live streams and 8mb/s dowload for call ins via zoom.
This solution makes absolutely sense but is very costly.
I know there will be a problem to get cellular into the venue. Most halls have no windows and the next possibility to set an antenna is 10-20m distant.
That is to much for an antenna cable. So best would be to have the router with the antenna outside and connect them via lan cable.
The 310x is out of reach for us. Is there an alternative that just do the WAN bonding?
And i wonder if in this use case a Nighthawk wouldnt be better than a BR1 mini 5G. I think the Nighthawk has better reception strength in general.
You can start with a B one if you dont need a lot of LAN power. There is nothing cheaper and bonding is up to 400Mbps.
During the event, you want to have a global overview of what is happening. Staying on one brand under one roof will help but is not mandatory.
Dont underestimate the Peplink esim integration and the synergy mode. Also I d advise refurbished market if you want to start at a very low “price per modem” point, look for transit duos, hd4,…
