Hi All - I got a new Balance 310 HW V5, working well, but I do not have the Virtual WAN interface available to me.
I contacted support and they put me on firmware 8.5.4. Now the virtual WAN is available, but it introduced pretty bad latency across my SpeedFusion Hubs.
I reverted back to 8.5.3 and the latency issue goes away, but so does the virtual WAN.
Is anyone else dealing with this? My gut says that I’ll just have to wait till they officially release 8.5.4 for the Balance 310 HW V5. Their firmware page says it’s not released yet, but that didn’t stop support obviously.
Just trying to figure out if this is ultimately going to get resolved, or should I go for a more tried and true product before my 30 day return window closes.
@BennyLink,
I hadn’t noticed this before (but have had other minor issues with 310) so just now tested an LTE connection from the new 5G Adapter (ADP-5GY-T-PRM) to my 310 running 8.5.4s022 build 6297, VLAN as WAN. No discernable difference in latency pinging Google from the 310 vs natively out of the 5G Adapter.
Maybe check the MTU on the VLAN as WAN interface and see what you see there?
Hi Beau - thanks for the reply. What I’m seeing is overall general latency of my Speedfusion Hubs when on the 8.5.4 firmware. I’m not even using the VLAN WAN. Just WAN 1 and WAN2. Below is a picture illustrating what I see, latency is sub 50 ms on 8.5.3. Then nearly doubles on 8.5.4. The yellow dotted line is latency. Last little stretch is where I reverted back to 8.5.3, and it’s continued the same.
I rebooted everything in the chain after the 8.5.4 upgrade to no avail. Not sure what is different .3 vs .4 that would cause latency to shoot up. The other odd thing is the latency is erratic on 8.5.4 vs. pretty consistent latency on 8.5.3.
You’re welcome and thank you for that clarification. I was able to reproduce and generated a pdf report from my test results - with some help from Perplexity - and verified the data.
It seems clear that having the 310 on 8.5.4s022 build 6297 is a root cause. The forum won’t let me upload the full pdf report but I can email it to you if you want it - just dm me where to to send.

This is fantastic! I will DM an address to send. I have a ticket open with Peplink and I will combine your data with mine so hopefully that helps them find a resolution.
Thank you for sharing this info, would you please share with us ticket conclusions regarding this subject?
Hi mvidos - Thus far, no resolution.
I have been working with support and we have tried the 8.5.4 firmware, this restored the vwan interface, but introduced latency for Speedfusion Connect and Speedfusion Hub.
Then we tried the new beta 8.6.0 firmware, and the latency issue persists, and possibly got worse.
Right now my only option is to downgrade back to 8.5.3 so it’s usable again, but lacking the vwan interface and hope they resolve the issue in a future firmware release.
Beau and I both are providing what we can to their team to help them diagnose and fix the issue. If you have anything to provide open a ticket and reference this thread so they have more info.
Sir, thank you. It is great you are working with Peplink team, they shall fix this and with your input probably much faster. I actually caught this post before i have taken the path you took. I was going to do the same thing you did. So you saved me a lot of time and effort.
