Balance 310 configuration

Recently started a new job and i’ve come into a peplink network. We have a Balance 310 as our router and Peplink SD switches at the access level. With this i’ve also inherited some issues i’m trying to correct.

Every port on the SD switches are configured as trunk ports. An untagged frame is set to the default vlan. I come from a Cisco background so i’m trying to figure out why all are set to trunk. We use a ip phone system. I’m used to setting a vlan on an access port and being able to set a voip vlan on the same port. i’ve tried finding documentation on how to accomplish the same function with a peplink system.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

SD Switch Trunk port will carry the default VLAN (Untag) + All VLANs traffics.

What we need to know is the device need to connect to the SD switch carry what VLANs traffics.

For example:

VOIP device (Port access VLAN 1) ------> (Trunk Any) SD switch ----> (Trunk Any) B310
|
PC (VLAN 2 - Tag)

What you need to do in SD switch base on the above setup:

  1. Define/create VLAN 1 & set the VLAN as default VLAN (This will make VLAN 1 as untag/port access)
  2. Define/create VLAN2

In B310:

  • Basically default VLAN1 in SD Switch will work/running as Untag VLAN for B310.
  • Create VLAN2

Make sure you VOIP device is having trunk untag VLAN1 & Tag VLAN2 to the SD switch then the setup should work
