I have a peplink balance 20 with googles fiber internet using Gr6exxoc router.
The google router works flawlessly, wifi is much more powerful and never a hiccup.
But, if I run the google fiber through peplink, the performance is abysmal. The wifi drops from 800/800 with 20ms latency to like 500/500 60ms latency everything else remaining the same, same location / distance etc.
And, there is lag or latency while gaming on the peplink vs the google router.
Any suggestions to match the performance of the google router?
Hmmm. The Balance 20 was a great router in its day. However when one looks at its specs one can see it is not a good match for a fast fiber WAN, although the throughput you are seeing exceeds the specifications for your router (good!) I great replacement would be the B-One.
I apologize, the product i have is the Peplink B-One Gigabit Dual WAN WiFi Router for Wireless Internet | 1GBps Throughput | 2X WAN Port, 4X LAN Port, Dual-Band 2X2 MIMO Wi-Fi.
Which does claim 1 gig wifi. But the google fiber through the peplink wifi is really bad, it has noticable hiccups.
OK, then I’d suggest submitting a ticket on this and referencing this thread in doing so. Then, post the ticket number here. I’m curious as to what Peplink’s “official” response may be (although I think I know.)
@Kyle_Watson, I think what you are seeing is the difference between WiFi 6 with 2x2 MIMO (Peplink) and WiFi 6E with 4x4 MIMO (Gr6exxoc). 6E also has a 6GHz channel set in addition to 2.4 and 5 and higher channel bandwidth (eg 160 MHz vs 80 MHz). I also have the B One 5G and see a similar performance drop when connected directly to B One WiFi vs 3rd party WiFi 6E or 7 AP (or even a WiFi 6 AP with 4x4 MIMO like the AP One AX).

I tested the google fiber wifi and ethernet and was getting 800 / 800.
Using a cat 6 cable from the google fiber modem to the wan 1 into the balance B one, I only can get 500 / 500 on the peplink.
So yeah there just has to be some sort of performance drop on the balance B one. I also noticed that the wifi to wan has TERRRRRIBLE performance. I can only get like 50 up and 20 down rebroadcasting gogles wifi connection that gets 800 / 800 Mbps
