B20X Licensed VWANs disappeared after being powered off for months, causing inability to reconnect after power up

Hi,

I have a peplink balance 20x with 2 x VWANs licensed independent of Primecare. The router was working fine and then was powered off for a number of months, during which time Primecare expired. It was recently powered back on and could not connect to the Internet because both VWANs disappeared. We had to reconnect the working Internet connection to the WAN port to get reconnected, after which the 2 x VWAN’s reappeared. Router is running 8.3.0b5315.

Since the VWAN licenses are independent of Primecare, I would not expect expiration of Primecare to affect these licenses. And I would hope that losing internet/being powered off for a period of time doesn’t cause valid WANs to disappear such that it cannot re-establish connections upon powerup.

Is this behavior normal/expected?

Thanks!

Try to update it to 8.4.1 and see if it shows back up.

It all came back as soon as it regained internet, but that required that we swapped the WANs around so that the physical WAN (not the VWAN) had Internet, and then the VWAN came back. Being as how this router has a permanent VWAN license, I would not expect it to lose the VWAN license just because it was offline or without Internet for a period of time.

Hello @Richard_Anderson,
The firmware version you are using is fairly old now, having been released almost 18 months ago.

Per @Jonathan_Pitts’s comment, moving the router to the newer GA release version earlier may have prevented the VLANs from stopping.
Now that your router is online, I suggest moving to either:

These are some of the related published fixes to the Virtual WAN feature since 8.3.0 GA:

To review the release notes, go to the Peplink Firmware Archive Firmware & Documentation- Peplink and filter your router model to download or use the links above.

Happy to Help,
