AWS Direct Connect Support

AWS Direct Connect is becoming more common in use and allows for much higher speeds than the Speedfusion VPN. A very common use case is DX for high-bandwidth items that are distributed to a datacenter as well connected to the VPN network. The Speedfusion hub does not provide the needed speeds to connect an EPX faster than 3Gbps. A DX can use the full 30G bandwidth.

The issue I’ve had is the BGP doesn’t properly support AWS’s MD5 requirements so the Pepwave will not neighbor properly to a DX circuit.

@Eric_Falkner ,

Do you discussed with Peplink support for the mentioned issue ? If not, can you open a support ticket to allow us to review the issue ? Supposedly we do have the option to enable the BGP MD5 authentication for the BGP session.

We would like to know the detail info for the “BGP doesn’t properly support AWS’s MD5 requirements” as mentioned so that we can confirm the issue.

A support ticket was opened through Frontier Computer Corp and support told them “they let me know they haven’t checked out working with AWS Direct connect at this moment.”

I would love if someone in Peplink had insight into making BGP work for it.

Hi Eric, did you ever get AWS DirectConnect to work on the Peplink?

No. Never was able to get it to work. Support did not have a solution either. We are moving to another switch for the BGP.

@Eric_Falkner ,

Possible to create a ticket to allow us to check on the BGP connection ? We would like to confirm which part for the BGP settings is not working as expected.

I already did a while back (via Frontier Computer Corp) and supports answer was they didn’t know how to support AWS Direct Connect:

“After checking with Peplink, they let me know they haven’t checked out working with AWS Direct connect at this moment.”

They have asked it be put on the roadmap.

Hi Eric,

I’ve added you to the Peplink ticket in which the request was made.

Sit Loongs, ticket # is 22120729 if you would like to continue working on the issue there.

Please utilize the ticket to further investigate the issue here.

Thanks
