Automatic Starlink Pause/Start

Many maritime users have a cheap mobile connection active when in port (Starlink pause), and have Starlink active and in Ocean mode when offshore (Starlink start). Currently, the user is required to change settings in the Starlink app when activating (start service + set ocean mode ON). It would be a unique feature if the Peplink router could automate this. Do not hesitate to contact me if you consider this feature and would like to have more detailed requirements.

Hi Ton,

I agree with you this would be an awesome feature - problem is not technically possible for Peplink to change the plan via API or gRPC.

Consider this as well, if you could change via API what havoc you could cause as well! And suddenly people would argue Peplink was the fault they got charged for certain things.

They can contact a reseller that has performed all intergation (like Venn  ) to do this.
If you want to do this through InControl, you’d need to sahre your api key if your account has access to one…

Hi Ton, your suggestion does make sense. I understand the “Ocean mode” actually refers to the “Global Priority” service plan which is quite expensive. You want to automatically change to this plan only when the Starlink is in the ocean.

I think it is basically possible for IC2 to automatically switch between the “Local Priority” and “Global Priority” service plans when a Starlink’s location is a certain distance away from the coast in the sea. Is there any other requirement? Feel free to PM me.

“Ocean Mode” is actually something different from switching service plan. The requirement is not related to switching to a different service plan. The intention is to “unpause” the current service plan (so no changes, just activate). After “unpausing” the Ocean Mode needs to be activated. Starlink then works when >5 miles offshore; billing is then per GB. As this impacts cost, the user should be explicitly notified (and potentially OK the change if that is preferred). When re-entering the 5 mile zone Ocean Mode should be de-activated, and potentially the Starlink subscription can again be paused if 5G connectivity is available and working. Feel free to PM me for further discussion.
