Having issue with at&t SIM card in a new Peplink BR1 router…. on the dashboard, it says SIM not detected, but when clicking on detail, it identifies the card in slot a, recognizes AT&T as carrier, and even displays an IMEI. not sure how to resolve this, as I have rebooted, reinserted SIM in both a and b slots. Updated firmware to 8.2.1.
the at&t card is a $20 tablet plan, and the card works in a ad Pro. Wondering if this plan with att even works in this application?
any ideas or thoughts?
thanks!
That plan is a popular unapproved choice for routers in the rural internal and RV world but it usually requires some “magic” configuration done on the modem. That’s coded, “wink and a nod” language meaning to change the IMEI to match the tablet the plan is activated on. I don’t think you can do that on a Pepwave. Even if you get it to work without that, AT&T will probably shut it down fairly quickly.
Unless the BR1 modem is different than the MAX Transit Pro modems (dual LTE), that tablet SIM/plan works; I am using an AT&T Tablet plan SIM without issues. No special set up - simply use auto for config, or manually select band(s), and use ‘broadband’ for the APN.
Note: This SIM was set up with a physical cellular iPad at an AT&T store, then the SIM was removed and used in the MAX Transit Pro.
Richard,
Out of curiosity… did you ask the Peplink partner where you purchased this equipment if the AT&T SIM & data plan you had would work in this device? Have you asked them for assistance?
I have used AT&T data plans in the past with Peplink products & the SIM comes to life with the default settings in the Peplink device.
The information provided by Tetranz is pretty much common knowledge. The IMEI information is available from the Peplink Dashboard by selecting Cellular & Details. You may or may not be able to change it to something that will work if you have a valid IMEI for the AT&T network. Even if you can accomplish this, I would advise against it.
The major cellular carriers (AT&T, Verizon & T-Mobile) aggressively market their 5G offerings. In many instances, especially with rural internet & the RV world, actual 5G service is pretty hard to come by. Exception may be T-Mobile. Just my opinion, I’m sure there are other who will disagree.
As a reminder to all… The Peplink business model provides that 1st level support comes from the entity from which you purchased the unit,.
Truly hope you can get your issue resolved. Peplink products are top notch with the correct data plan.
Thank you all for the input. ill look into the contacting the seller. I purchased directly from Peplink on their amazon stor…. . its just strange that it sees the card in the detailed view but the dashboard wont recognize it, so i know the card is installed correctly…… ill keep messing with it and try peplink support
This is exactly what I did, bit it didnt work in this new router… thx
