Assigned Wi-Fi connected to designated AP using tag

HI,

I have two APs (AP One AX) with 3 of SSID as a group under InControl2, since I cannot control which client connect to which AP, is it possible to use Tag for each AP to control which client can connect to. How can I setup the SSID as well as the MAC filter? Can you give me an example ?

Thank you

Regards,

The MAC filter is included in the SSID config in IC2, so you shouldn’t need to show that separately?

On the device itself, set a tag (hit edit to add one):

On the SSID configuration in IC2, you can select the tag for the SSID:

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. As I have 3 SSIDs in a group with 2 APs, can I create same set of SSIDs with pointing to the different tag? Say I have 2 APs tag with AP1 and AP2 while the SSID is “Test”, is it possible to create two same SSID “Test” that separate the client connection to the designated AP1 or AP2? Then use MAC filter to allocate the access, will it work?

Thank You

Regards

yes, that will work. I have created multiple entries for the same SSID and allocated them to different devices with tags before.

What’s the application where you are using mac filtering though? Its not secure by itself, it needs encryption as well.

Also, if the endpoint/client can see both “Test” SSIDs, its likely to have issues. In that scenario, it will try to connect to whichever one has a better signal, and if is the one it’s not allowed to join, it may not always cleanly re-try the other one. Essentially, the selection of which device/network to join is made by the endpoint, and only AFTER it tries to connect will it get rejected and it won’t “remember” that necessarily.
