Hi,
We are looking to switch the APN on our Peplink BR1. We are worried that once we switch the APN with the carrier, we will no longer be able to remotely communicate with the BR1. Can you specify a failover APN in the cellular settings, so that if the BR1 fails to connect to one APN, it tries a second APN with the same SIM card?
No you can’t but its a good idea. Like a comma delimited list of APNs.
Assume this is full remote with no one near it? If there was someone near I like to use WIFI wan to their smartphone hotspot as a backup just in case…
Yea, I was just testing the behavior using nmcli in linux. You can specify two different profiles with seperate APNs and it is smart enough to know which one to prioritize. The main use case for this is when you need to update the APN for a fleet of systems (static IP APN-> dynamic IP APN). You won’t necessarily have the ability to configure all of the devices to use a WIFI failover (unique access points). If something goes wrong with the update (e.g. someone types in the wrong APN), you can’t roll the APN back because now it has the wrong APN set as the priority 1 WAN.
You can configure SMS commands as a backup of course…

This functionality doesn’t appear to be available on the Pepwave MAX BR1 Pro 5G.
