AP PRO AX Range Coverage

Greetings everyone,

Would anyone know what the WI-FI (2.4 & 5 GHz) coverage of the AP PRO AX is?
I need to design a large-scale external MESH network (3/4 KM) and I wanted to try to figure out how many AP-PROs I needed.

Thanks in advance.

Heavily depends on the environment and how much inference you’ll have. Ideally you want to have ~-60 dbm or better 5ghz signal between your mesh nodes and then only use the 2.4ghz for client devices

Hello @filippo.pazzaglini,
We have successfully covered a 1-kilometre stretch of a runway at a private airfield. Like other brands for outdoors WAPs, there are several factors, these include:

  • Environment
  • Height
  • Cabling length and connectors used (plus lightning protection if outdoors)
  • Antenna(s) used (Peplink or third party)

The Peplink AP Pro AX (and previous generations) comes without any antennas, so the question is theoretical; in the real world, it could be anywhere from 25 meters to 300 meters, depending on the above.

For Peplink Partners, there is a knowledge base article “Antenna Selection Guide for Peplink Partners” that I created many years ago. The fundamentals are still current. You might like to ask your Peplink Partner for a copy.

Have a good week,
Marcus
