any remaining issues with starlink ethernet adapter?

I remember reading about issues with the starlink ethernet adapters and some balance and other peplink routers a year ago.

Are there any remaining issues with a direct connection between balance router wan port and starlink ethernet adapter?

It was only with specific older Peplink devices, the specific chips used on that PCB were not compatible with the Starlink Ethernet Adapter and only that device, so not sure if you can fault Peplink for that.

It works fine on all X models and the new BR1/BR2 Pro 5G models.

Did firmware on peplink or starlink’s side fix the issue with the older affected models now, or is there still an issue to watch out for with older peplink wan chipsets and starlink ethernet adapters?

Could you provide specifics: Which devices and version numbers were (or are) affected?

Yes, the last update I saw was
https://forum.peplink.com/t/throughput-issues-when-connecting-to-a-starlink-gen-2-router/62cba0d0e3d5c2aca578eb69/

I’m curious if starlink fixed it, or if peplink fixed it, or if it still exists with the models on that list.

NOPE. 8.3.0 on max transit duo - 1gbps etherent, drops packets. 100M Full - no dropped packets.

is there any issue if you avoid the starlink router/ethernet adapter and go straight from dish to peplink?

With the rectangular starlink dish that has the proprietary starlink connector on the dish rather than RJ45 and power supplied by the modem, that would require customized hardware… I’ve seen some adapters that looked pretty neat and people powering them via 12volt, but I was hesitant.

I wonder if starlink will keep using the same chipset in their ethernet adapters forever or if they’ll switch to something better as global supply chain shortages ease or just as different chipsets are available? Replacing the ethernet adapter would be the cheapest fix if a new version comes out…
(I suppose a switch inline isn’t terrible, but if a new ethernet adapter comes out I’ll pick one up for good measure.)

My understanding is its super simple to cut the end off and put on a regular connector. I am curious if anyone has done that and still faces the issue?

Check this out - I ordered one yesterday.

You end up with standard Ethernet-B for both connections so you don’t have to worry about the X-reversed wiring when doing the starlink>RJ45 conversion.

Looks cool! Please keep us posted how it works for you and if it solves the port negotiation / speed issue. thank you!!

I have a balance 20x that should not even have this issue but I still have a switch(basic unmanaged) between SL and Peplink if I remove it and plug direct it has issues. I would love to see this fixed, let me know if anyone else can confirm. I have rectangular dish but have not upgraded to 8.3 yet.

I have SL 2.0, Starlink Ethernet Adapter, and Balance 20X running 8.3 and have a speed test of over 150 from Starlink and not seeing any problems.

My Balance was set to 192.168.1.1 when I received it and after changing it to 192.168.50.1 all my health check problems and slow SL speeds went away.

so anyone direct from dishie to max br1 pro or transit that can opine if there are any outstanding issues? not using starlink ethernet adapter NOR starlink router, again direct connection from dish to peplink. thank you!

anyone?

Re: Peplink via Aquablue’s link (emphasis mine):

We’ve narrowed it down to a port compatibility issue, and is an effect of the combination of the Ethernet Adapter chipset provided by Starlink and the WAN chipset of certain Peplink models (eg. MAX Transit, Transit Pro E). Changing either device will see this problem disappear.

I’m assuming that bypassing the ethernet adapter counts as “changing.” I plan to make this mod myself with my Max Transit Duo.

@Edward_Walker How have you got on with this? Mine arrived in the post today and i am trying to work out if i can power my MAX BR1 MK2 from it, either directly or using a POE splitter?

been working great here with direct connection (no starlink router) on max br1 pro using the yaosheng adapters.
