802.11 n Channel Bonding

Please someone explain me the concept for channel bonding in 20MHZ and 40MHZ frequencies in AP One.

what’s the benefits and drawbacks ? which one gives more speed ?

Thanks

Hi Hootan,

Channel bonding basically utilizes two 20MHz channels to double the potential throughput of one AP/Network. The biggest benefit is the increase in speed, but there are two drawbacks:

  1. It is more difficult to use in environments with heavy wifi usage. Since it uses more airspace, it cannot easily fit between other APs, or find non overlapping space.

  2. It requires a higher signal strength to maintain good data rates. If you have the client and AP in very close proximity, then channel bonding is a good fit. If they are far apart, you will typically see better results with standard 20MHz channels.

I hope this helps!

Thank you so much Travis.

Understood.

Good Luck.
