42G: Pole or Roof Mount for RV?

I have a new Peplink MAX BR1 Pro 5G Mobile Router (X62) + 42G Antenna (with longer optional cable). I have an Aluminum shell RV. Trying to decide whether to mount the Antenna on a telescoping pole which would extend the 42G to about 20’ above ground, or mount it directly on the roof of the RV. Assuming I can mount it on the roof without any directly adjacent obstruction, is there a rule-of-thumb that “higher is always better” so I can assume I’d have better performance with the higher location of the telescoping pole mount? Thank you Cheers,

Keep in mine the longer the cable the more signal loss you’ll have , the coax length should be under 15’ total.

higher is not always better. depends on your location, cell towers, terrain, etc.

For the pole mount, I would be using the 16’ cable that Peplink offers as one of two optional cables for the Mobility 42G antenna. The other option is 6.5’.

Cheers,

If you are already on the roof of your RV: the shorter the cable, the better. Cell towers are high enough already. You’re not on a vessel going tens of miles away from shore towers.

Thanks.

Not on the roof yet. Have a new Peplink router and 42G antenna and trying to decide where to install it.

Cheers,
