3 questions about preventing device reaching InControl2

The Tips and Tricks topic on “Prevent Device Reaching InControl 2” presents a way to stop a device from contacting InControl on its own. This topic was Peplink’s response to a customer noticing that a Peplink engineer re-enabled Remote Assistance after the customer had disabled it.

I have a B One router using 8.5.4 firmware where I added outbound firewall rules as stated in the article to block access to ac1.peplink.com and ac2.peplink.com. I also enabled the “Outbound Firewall to manage device local network traffic” option.

Question 1: Pings from a computer on my local network are blocked from the ac1 and ac2 sites. This works whether the local network traffic option is on or off. Pings from the router to ac1 and ac2 still go through–why? The stated purpose of the article was to block the device from reaching ac1 and ac2. How can I confirm the connections are blocked?

Question 2: What is the overall purpose of the local network option? Local computers cannot ping ac1 or ac1 with the option on or off. Pings from the router go through with the option enabled or not.

Question 3: Does enabling the “Outbound Firewall to manage device local network traffic” option affect Internal Firewall rules?

Thank you,
