Worried about wifi speed of b one router

So I’ve been researching this product and have come across several forums complaining about the wifi speed of the b one. This worries me because a family member constantly complains about his wifi connection being laggy when streaming/playing video games with our existing isp router. I really want to buy this router, but I’m not sure what I can do if indeed we experience the same slow wifi as others have mentioned. I’m doubly worried because I intend to use router as vpn client and I know that will slow it down even more. I’m no tech expert so even we experience this, I’m scared I won’t be able to troubleshoot it myself and then I’ll be forced to return it . If the wifi is too slow with it functioning as vpn client, are there ways I can extend the range or make it faster? Any advice is very much recommended and appreciated!

Just tested with MacBook M2 and Pixel 8, got a combined 360Mbps sitting 20’ and one floor away from the B One, internet is 500Mbps and tests at ~480Mbps from the router during most hourly health checks. It’s what I’d expect from a 2x2 WiFi router. If you want significantly more speed you’ll need a 4x4 router with 160MHz channel support. With 2 dozen devices in the house I’ve never had anyone really complain about speed since I fixed an issue I was having with my modem and the router talking (I put a $20 switch between them, it got rid of the random slowdowns I had been experiencing).

Sorry I don’t know what a 2x2 router means. If the speed is an issue does Peplink offer 4x4 router?

I don’t believe they do, but the do offer the AP One AX which is a 4x4 Access point which can be managed by their routers or through Incontrol2 their cloud management platform.

I have a b one, and my wifi speeds match those of Andrew_Fidel. I’m wondering though why you think your current router is the problem. There are many reasons why gaming performance might be “laggy” that have nothing to do with the router–the gaming device (a computer that may not be optimized for gaming), the speed and quality of your wan service, the positioning of the wifi antennas, electronic interference, etc. I think you need to check your setup to see where the problem is. Hope this helps.

So I just tested my wifi speed from my phone and found we’ve only been getting less than 50 mbps! I tested from 4 different test sites in two different locations and on my boyfriend’s phone as well. I called my ISP and they did something and when I tested it again, the speeds were slightly higher depending on where I was in my home but the highest it got was about 300 mbps so I’m hoping the b one can at least get that speed as well or at the very least above 50 mbps!

MissAlice, just wondering if you’re a real human being or an AI creation?
