VRRP for HA - Multicast, Interfaces?

Hi!

Can you tell me, how your VRRP-implementation is working? Do you use Multicast or Unicast?

Multicast is a problem for me. If there are problems with broadcast/multicast-storms, packets can be blocked by the switches…

One other thing:
If i have multiple LAN-interfaces: which one/ones are used for VRRP? What happes, if the first LAN-interface is down, but another one has link?

Thank you for your help

We are following the RFC3768 standard.

Please refer to the user guide below:

HA failover will happen for the following conditions:

  • Hardware failure (no power).
  • all LAN ports down (Physical port loose connection + Logical - no response from peer device)
  • All WANs down (Physical port loose connection + Logical - WAN health check failed)

As for now VRRP is running on untagged VLAN only.

Hi!

Thank you for your answer.
Can you explain, what you mean with:

Logical - no response from peer device

Which peer device can fail?

The peer device is the other device that’s in HA. If the slave doesn’t hear from the master on the LAN, the slave will take over as the master.

So in this case the peer device will be whatever isn’t the master.
