My Pepwave is configured with two AP’s, one for personal and one for work. During the work day when the connection is less than ideal, I would like to turn off the personal AP so that all my devices cannot connect. How do I do that with a Max BR1 5G?
You can define a schedule then set the schedule per SSID.
The thing is… I don’t want to do it on a schedule, only if the connection is really poor do I want to turn it off.
The only thing I can think of is using the feature to disable wifi on that specific SSID when internet is offline. But ‘poor reception’ won’t be counted as offline unless the latency goes high enough to cause a disconnect. Are both networks using the same internet connection and what kind of connection is it?
So this came up because it was my reality a few weeks ago, the first time I tried working from anywhere. I was at a camp site where I had between .5M and 3M download and 1~5M upload (don’t know why upload was faster but…).
I had all our personal devices connecting to one AP, say “Personal”, and my work laptop connection to the AP “Work”.
During the day I did not want any of our personal devices to connect to the Internet through Personal, so I had to go around to all the devices and turn off WiFi. What would be a lot nicer is to go into the admin panel and simple disable the Personal AP so there was no AP to connect to. At the end of the work day go in and turn the Personal AP back on, easy peasy.
That should be possible anyhow, which devices are you using?
When using the AP Controller function inside the Peplink you can select which SSID’s need to broadcast and just change it when you want to change it. As someone else already said you can also set a different schedule per SSID. Each Peplink device can broadcast one or mulitple SSID’s from the same AP.
I have the MAX-BR1-5G
If you configure the AP locally in the device with AP Controller enabled for Internal and External AP, you should be able to do it on the local control panel of the Peplink.
I would agree that I should be able to do it. The question I have is how do I do it. I have looked multiple times and am missing how to disable the personal SD. Do you know the steps?
Found it!!!
AP > Settings, very top section is SSID with checkboxes by the different AP’s, turn off the checkboxes to turn off the AP.
I knew it was there somewhere, just wasn’t seeing it!
