I have enabled syslog and nothting reported in. I added the url logging and then it started reporting. Do i need both ticked to get the syslog and what is the difference?
Syslog should report what you see in the event log such as a link down, changes applied, etc.

Is there a way to configure the level of detail logged by syslog? I looked at the CLI and didn’t see any options there, nor do I see anything in the web admin interface.
I would like to be able to syslog when particular devices access the network.

You can configure firewall rules for these devices and enable event logging in each firewall rule. This can fill up the event log quickly so be cautious if logging “allowed” sessions.
