Status LEDs on a Max Transit Pro E

Is there any way to configure the behavior of the front panel LEDs on this device. It sure would be nice to know by a visual glance to know if it is routing over cellular or over wired/wireless wan. This unit does not even have a “WiFi” LED like the single modem devices which would be extremely helpful. Between the three LED’s on the front panel, they are always all green no matter what the unit is doing.

If I want the two cellular modems to be connected in hot standby mode, but not in use, the LEDs remain green. When the Wifi WAN goes away, and the connections switch to routing via LTE…they look exactly the same. The only way I could get the three LEDs to display any meaningful information is to put the modems in “cold standby” mode when not in use, but they take too long to connect when switching from Wired/Wireless LAN.

I am really surprised that such an expensive device cheaped-out on simple hardware status information like LEDs. They could have given WAY more information using bi-colored LEDs to show modem status of “connected/standby” and “connected/active” like all of their competitors. Any feedback or info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. Can you furnish links to product literature of the various competitors to which you refer?

One example of I device I currently use is a Cradlepoint IBR-600C (and all the other Cradlepoint devices I have owned in the past). The Modem LED is red when there are issues, amber when connected in hot-standby mode, flashing green while connecting, and solid green when connected and link is active. https://cradlepoint.com/product/endpoints/ibr600c-series/

The leds on the peplinks are bicolor , and indicate different states.

In addition to the states below , would would you like it to do?

Since the OBP are rather dynamic I’m not sure how they would implement your request of changing the led , when traffic is routing via a interface. I also don’t feel that it would make sense to use red for P2, and blinking is already used for cellular connecting.I’m not sure why the wifi leds is not on this model, but I never found it of use for other models.

I am fairly new to peplink hardware and getting used to it. I am very impressed with many of the features packed into these routers, but kindof got hung up on the relatively sparse info shown on the router itself compared to my cradlepoint gear. Having four tri-colored LEDs was really nice and I could know exactly what state the device was in with a quick glance. Maybee I will get used to it, but I guess my biggest problem lies in the fact that there is no Wifi/WAN led…whereas the “status” light seems to be a waste (how often does one get a boot-up error?). How can I tell from looking at the router’s LEDs that it is connected to cellular with no traffic, or connected to wifi-wan with a ton of traffic? The status would show the same, correct?
