Slow/dropped connection to Surf SOHO Mk 3

I have a Pepwave Surf SOHO Mk 3. Its been flaky for awhile, even after the update to the 7.1.1 firmware, still not working right. I’m not sure if its my computer though or the router.

Basically, when I’m connecting my laptop (MacBook Pro 2014, wifi AC), I get at most 10Mbps transfers speed. My laptop is on wifi, the other computer is on ethernet. Then sometimes my laptop will randomly drop the connection to the router. It still shows as connected, but I can’t access anything on the network or the outside internet. I can’t even access the admin page for the router, even though it still shows me as connected to the router.

I checked my computer and my wife’s, and both say they are connecting on the 2.4ghz band and Wifi-N, even though both are capable of AC and 5ghz. I’m not sure how to force it to use 5ghz though. In the admin page for the SOHO, it just has the checkboxes to enable 2.4 and 5ghz, but both use the same SSID, so I assume that either the router or the computer should choose the best option.

I might just disable the 2.4ghz ssid since we are usually pretty close to the router anyway and don’t need the range. I don’t think any of our devices are lacking 5ghz support, so we should be fine, but I’m wondering if there is something else I’m missing.

Sound like it can be related to WIFI interference for 2.4Ghz. Can you please enable “Band Steering” and monitor the status ?
